Youths on a mission

Br. Martin Tnines was visited by a street youth leader the Melanesian Institute on the morning 18/07/15 to brief him on the progress of their efforts in reducing their illicit activities and their struggle to overcome Marijuana consumption and improve their lives by attending literacy class, going back to schools, doing casual work as security guards, cleaning and beautifying Goroka town, and by selling second-hand clothes on the streets.

The efforts for self-improvement are results of translating his research findings on Sustenance Addiction into substance abuse workshop and awareness, life skill training, peer education and community outreach. These intervention programs were sponsored by Church Partnership Program of NCFLA that was managed by an energetic America Latino nun, Sr. Gabriela Burgos SSpS.

It was Sr. Burgos who approached and challenged Br Martin to bring back the research findings to his research participants. She advised Br Martin to not make his research participants as just objects of scientific inquiries and to not use their knowledge for academic publications only.
