Cultural Dynamics and its impact on Religious Life

Cultural Dynamics and its impact on Religious Life was the topic of the Confederation of Religious Women of PNG/SI who held a four-day meeting (29-2 October) at the Catholic Theological Institute, Port Moresby. The Conference was something especial because such gathering have been waiting for7 years to be resurrected! Sr Alice Fungencio with her expertise and professionalism was the one who put things into motion. She made that Conference happen as she requested the founding agency Misereor to help them by providing funds for travelling and accommodation.  A Sister from the Salomon Islands took part to the great delight of all sisters working in Papua New Guinea. The director of the Melanesian Institute Fr Geovanne Bustos SVD was the resource person and facilitator. He provided six presentations: The Church and the Cultures; Why is culture dynamic?; Technology, Postmodern Culture and Spirituality; Going back to the Source: Our Spirituality; Being not afraid to meet the other: Spirituality of Crossing; Mourning the Death in the Light of the Resurrection? (Local Culture and Faith in Dialogue). After each talk there was a good time for sharing in small groups which Fr Geovanne regarded as “engaging” before their insights brought into a plemun in the big group.

At the end of the Conference the Sisters expressed their gratitude to him assuring him that they would go back to their respective communities to share what they had learned throughout those days of the Conference.
